A quilt must always be larger than our bed because we cover ourselves with it or wrap it around us. For adults, the standard-size quilt is 200 cm in length and 140 or 160 cm in width. If you belong to the »higher« generation, we recommend the purchase of an extended size – 220 cm. Quilts for French and double beds are available in dimensions of 200x200 cm or 200x260 cm. The decision whether to buy two single-size quilts for a king-size bed or to squeeze under a large double quilt with your partner is entirely your own. If you and your partner are not on the same »temperature length« (e.g. you are often cold while your partner is always warm), it would perhaps be best to buy each of you your own quilt – according to your needs and wishes. Make sure that the size of your quilt matches your bedlinen.
Owing to the need for a higher living culture, new and improved materials are being developed for beds. Modern artificial materials (polyester) preserve the qualities of natural materials such as, e.g. wool, and at the same time are pleasant to the touch and easier to clean. Because polyester retains a lot of air, such quilts are very warm and soft, and can even be washed in a washer.
A best quilt doesn't exist. The best quilt for you depends entirely on you and your sleeping habits. Today's quilts come with different filling materials: wool, cotton or polyester. The thickness of a quilt is no longer a measure for warmth. If you prefer natural materials, we recommend quilts filled with cotton or wool. If you are susceptible to allergies or asthma, you would do best to buy quilts filled with polyester. A thin, summer quilt is recommended in summer, and a thick quilt in winter. If you are unable to decide whether you are cold or hot and you are confused by the different thicknesses available, you might like to try the two-layered, double winter/summer quilt. This quilt is comprised of two thinner quilts that may be attached (winter) or used separately (summer).
